CIGS solar cell technology delivers autonomous, climate-friendly power
EUROPART supports the international logistics group DSV in implementing its sustainability and green logistics strategy. In a first step, EUROPART, the exclusive sales partner for Green Energy/mipv.pro solar systems, equipped a DSV service mobile with solar cells from Green Energy/mipv.pro, including inverters and storage batteries, at the beginning of May. DSV’s experience from the first few weeks of operation has been extremely positive.
The complete set supplied by EUROPART consists of solar cells with a peak output of 220 watts, a 4,000-watt inverter and two lithium batteries. Using this solution, approx. 2.2 kW is generated for 10 hours of sunlight per day and approx. 2.2 litres of fuel and 5.89 kg of CO2 are saved. This combination enables a completely self-sufficient and at the same time climate-friendly power supply for the workshop vehicle and all electric on-board tools. “We are very proud that through our cooperation with EUROPART we can deliver high quality Scandinavian energy, and CO2 saving products to the biggest player in European transport. We are looking forward to the actions for CO2 reduction within DSV, says Karl Andreassen, CEO Green Energy/mipv.pro". Further advantages are battery conservation and the elimination of disturbing noise caused by running diesel generators. DSV, one of the world’s largest transport and logistics service providers with 75,000 employees, and EUROPART have been working together for several years on spare parts, tools and workshop equipment. EUROPART has an international network with more than 280 branch offices in 27 countries.
Highly efficient and robust solar cells for mobile applications
Danish company Green Energy/mipv.pro specialises in developing solar systems for mobile applications. Unlike conventional solar cells with cells made of crystalline silicon, the CIGS solar cells developed by the company are flexible and extremely resistant, which protects them from damage as well as spontaneous combustion. In addition, the innovative solar cells are capable of generating electricity even with low solar irradiation and therefore ensure a high energy yield. With their mere three millimetre thin and very flexible design, the solar cells are particularly suitable for use on vehicle roofs or other mobile applications, including container roofs. Sales partner EUROPART provides the solar cells in preconfigured MIPV (Mobile Integrated Photovoltaic) sets that include a charge controller, cut-off relay, fuse and matching inverter in various power levels. Data loggers and 230-volt inverters for connecting standard electrical equipment are available as options. EUROPART supplies the solar cell sets in a variety of sizes and power classes.
Further support for sustainability strategy sought
“We are pleased to be able to support DSV with new, innovative solutions in the implementation of its sustainability strategy”, says EUROPART CEO Olaf Giesen. “The potential of the climate-friendly Green Energy solar system is enormous: from use in service vehicles to charging truck batteries to self-sufficient power supply for office or residential containers. In addition, for all spare parts and workshop equipment, our seasoned consulting team is always ready to provide advice and support to customers and installation partners of Green Energy solar systems. With the innovative CIGS solar cell technology, we offer our customers an economical solution to operate their vehicles and other mobile units in a more climate-friendly manner.”
